During the border incidents, the experts were mentioning the CSTO silence. These border incidents were not only in the Contact line, but the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border, were they? Why didn’t CSTO react in any way? In his interview to “ArmNews”, the President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, answered the question that there was no need for it. “CSTO actions are always driven by the actions of the applicant country. Of course, CSTO was able to respond and it might be due to purely technical problems. As far as I am informed, the CSTO Secretary General will arrive in Armenia in the near future. This is already an attitude.”

In the conversation with Aravot.am, the Chairman of Free Democrats party, also NA MP, Khachatur Kokobelyan did not agree with Serzh Sargsyan’s allegation that there was no need for the CSTO to respond. Mr. Kokobelyan said, “The CSTO a day before was obligation not only to properly respond to these operations, but also take action. Some RPA party members also talked about it, expressing an opinion that CSTO should have responded, and it should not be made only at the level of statements. We are a CSTO member, and CSTO was not only obliged to address the problem, but also take actions. Yet another time, we were convinced that the CSTO as a security system does not operate and is fully adapted to the Putin regime rather than the security interests of its member states.
